Depending on the number of teams, if less than 10, we will accept teams to be formed based on the following:

    • Individuals who are not able to get in contact with other developers to form a team may send their request to participate. We would then help them to form a team, if other individuals have expressed the same desire, in order for them to participate.

    • A team composed by four members not necessary from the same country, assuming this represents their actual situation in real life.

  2. All entries (one per team) must be sent to mfournier@transformation.com. Each entry much include the first name, last name and Universal Thread member ID of each of the four members. A picture of each member should also be part of that email in a 90*117 jpg format including a one pixel black border. (No need to send the picture for Universal Thread members who already have a 90*117 picture in their account)

  3. Entries close July 12, 2002 at 23h59 ET.

  4. Each participant must have an account on the Universal Thread.

  5. English will be used as the main corresponding language during the tournament. It is expected that at least one team member is able to express him/herself in English.

  6. Employees of Fournier Transformation, judges, sponsors, subsidiaries, advertising and promotional agencies and any person working directly on this programs, product and promotions, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible to participate.

  7. Participants will not be able to vote.

  8. This tournament is opened to a maximum of 10 teams. If more than 10 teams are registered, a one day single event will occur on July 14, 2002 in order to select the top 10 teams to participate in the tournament.

Standing selection

The tournament will include three events. Each event will require each team to submit material. Material will be judged from a panel of judges and from the community where applicable.

  1. Article submission for UTMag/RapoZine magazine
Each team will have to submit a Visual FoxPro technical article by August 15, 2002. The article length will be between two and four pages. The length does not include the graphics. The articles will appear in an exclusive issue of the magazine on September 2002 for the tournament. The Universal Thread community will be able to post their votes from September 1, 2002 to September 15, 2002 at 23h59 ET. The articles can be submitted in English, Portuguese or Spanish to
mfournier@transformation.com. Submission of the article should follow the technical guidelines of the UTMag/RapoZine magazine at http://www.universalthread.com/Magazine/TechnicalGuideline.asp.

  2. Development of a Visual FoxPro desktop application
Each team will receive information on how to download the specifications (one zip file containing the data and the Word 2000 document for the specifications) on July 20, 2002 at 00h01 ET for the development of a Visual FoxPro 7 desktop application in English compliant to a 1024*768 resolution and to the Windows 2000 operating system. They will have 48 hours to submit their best result. Each application will need to be received by July 21, 2002 at 23h59 ET. Four judges will judge the applications from August 1, 2002 to August 15, 2000 at 23h59 ET. The applications should be submitted to mfournier@transformation.com. It should be zipped in one file.

  3. Development of a Visual FoxPro Internet application
Each team will receive information on how to download the specifications (one zip file containing the data and the Word 2000 document for the specifications) on August 1, 2002 at 00h01 ET for the development of a Visual FoxPro Internet application compliant with Internet Explorer 6. They will have 48 hours to do their best result. Each application will need to be in production by August 3, 2002 at 00h00 ET. Four judges will judge the applications from that date for a maximum period of two weeks. Each team is responsible to host the application on an Internet server and make it available publically during the judging period so the judges will be able to access the application during that time frame for the judging process. The application cannot be altered once the 48 hours timeframe is completed. Failure to respect that, if discovered by a judge, may result in a disqualification of a team. Each team will have to provide the URL of the application before the end of the 48 hours timeframe to mfournier@transformation.com.
Once the specifications received for the VFP desktop and Internet applications, no additional support will be provided. Each team will receive the same file. We will not answer any request to provide additional explanation on specific topics. If some parts of the specifications require more explanations, remember that each team are facing the same situation so you are all on the same scale. The specifications are pretty easy to follow.
