Detroit Area Fox User Group
Meeting title:Quibbles, Quirks, and Quickies
Date:March 11, 2010 18:00
Description:Detroit Area Fox User Group (DAFUG) presents:
Quibbles, Quirks, and Quickies, by Rick Borup.

Rick Borup is going to give us the "director's cut" of his "Quibbles, Quirks, and Quickies" session filled with tons of tricks and traps with Visual FoxPro. Things don't always work quite the way we expect them to. The quirky behavior of a function or control can be a common cause of those "What the Heck??" moments we all encounter from time to time. We may be tempted to quibble with VFP's behavior in these situations, at least until we learn how it works and why it behaves the way it does. This session explores some of the quirks and quibbles in Visual FoxPro with the goal of reducing the number of "What the Heck" moments in your development work, and demonstrates ways you can boost your productivity by using some quick and easy techniques in VFP that may often be overlooked or forgotten.

You will learn:

- Why GetWordCount() and GetWordNum() don't always work as expected
- How NULL values can cause trouble in compound conditions and elsewhere
- How to use TRANSFORM() with precision
- Why a Rose is a rose - or is it?
- What's in a name?

And lots more!

Rick also has a tip to reveal for those who are using Inno Setup for their deployment packages!

We are always looking for volunteers and topics (please email Dale Zimmer or Rick Schummer)

Meetings are typically followed by food, FoxPro, and developer discussion at a local restaurant.
